The drop zone, where files dragged from Finder, the desktop or another SADFinder window are handed to an app’s Open dialog, is now a full-width row above the buttons. It is more than twice as tall as the strip it replaces and names the app the files go to.

When an app opens a Save dialog, the picker’s file name field takes the keyboard right away. Type the name and press Return to save into the folder SADFinder shows. Prefer the app’s own Save panel to keep the keyboard until you click into the picker? Turn off Settings → Desktop & Windows → Start typing the file name in SADFinder.

The picker’s footer is laid out like a macOS dialog: Show Folder in Default Finder on the left, Cancel and a much larger Save (or Use File) on the right. Cancel closes the app’s dialog, exactly like Escape.

Hovering over a file or folder in icon view shows its details: kind, dimensions, size, how many items a folder holds, when it was last modified and, in search results, where it is. Details that are not known are left out, and the tooltip stays away while you rename.

Opening a folder whose listing names the same file twice no longer crashes SADFinder. macOS can do that on a network share while files are still arriving, as on a Synology folder receiving a phone’s photo backup. The file is listed once.

Forward Delete (fn+Delete on a laptop) inside a name you are editing deletes the selected text. It used to move the file you were renaming, or the folder on the desktop, to the Trash, and it did the same in the search field and the path bar whenever something was selected.

Right-clicking in a big folder, the desktop’s icons and folders that refresh themselves no longer ask the disk the same question over and over while you wait, so they stay responsive on slow, external and network drives.

Select two or more files or folders and choose Rename. A separate window starts with one New name card and numbering switched on: Name (1), Name (2), and so on. It works in the browser and on the desktop.

Add rules to replace text, add text, use a number sequence, or change case. The live Before → After preview names each row’s problem, including duplicate names and files that already exist. One Undo puts the whole batch back.

Files selected from search results are renamed in the folders they actually live in. Name checks and Undo use those same folders, too.

Right-click a folder and choose Customize Folder. Pick a color and add an emoji, text, or a symbol badge in its own window. The customized icon appears in lists, icon grids, and on the desktop.

Customized folder icons no longer flicker when many of them are on screen.

Get Info puts size, media facts, and kind across the top. The line under the name tells you which folder the item is in.

Optional Size Bars draw a faint bar behind each value in the Size column. Larger files stand out without changing the row height or moving the text.

List view can show Dimensions, Duration, Pages, and Camera columns. Right-click the column header and choose them under Columns. Values come from the macOS Spotlight index; files without indexed details stay blank.

When a window is grouped, the status bar says so, for example Grouped by Kind. Click it to pick another grouping or None.

Media columns refresh when a file changes, and the status bar shows the duration of WAV and AIFF files again on macOS 27.

Right-click an item for actions on that file or folder. Right-click empty space for view settings, sorting, New, Paste, and Refresh. Properties stays last in every menu, and Open in Terminal on a folder opens that folder.

Open in Finder opens the folder itself in a Finder window. Find it on the empty-space menu, the desktop menu, and the sidebar folder menu.

A Time Machine backup disk that needs Full Disk Access now explains why its backups are protected instead of looking empty. The message also offers Open in Finder.

Sort By and Auto Arrange tidy each display’s desktop separately, keeping files on the display you chose.

A new desktop folder opens its name editor right away, and a folder renamed on the desktop stays selected.

Clicking away from an inline rename saves the name. Moving the caret before typing no longer makes the first keystroke re-select the whole name.

Dragging files out of List view works again on macOS 27, including selections of several files.

Groups keep a fixed order: kinds from A to Z, the newest dates first, and the largest sizes first. Reversing the sort now reorders the files inside each group instead of flipping the groups.

Compact Rows fits more files into List view without shrinking your text. Right-click the column header and choose Compact Rows, or use Settings → Appearance → Display.

Hide Desktop Icons clears the SADFinder desktop for a presentation or a quieter workspace. Right-click the desktop to hide them, then choose Show Desktop Icons to bring them back. Your files stay in the Desktop folder.

See image dimensions, video dimensions and approximate duration, or audio duration beside the selected file’s size. Media details appear for a single supported local file; online-only files and network volumes are skipped.

The status bar is easier to read. Media details disappear as a whole when space is tight, keeping the view and zoom controls in place.

Sakura Glass, Gilded Ivory, Lagoon, Obsidian Gold, Klein, Holo Pearl, Synthwave, and Velvet join the theme collection, with soft gradients and coordinated sidebars.

Klein pairs a blue sidebar with a light file area. Sidebar text stays readable when a themed window is inactive, too.

Loaded thumbnails stay visible while you resize or snap a window, and while an updated preview is being prepared. Reopening a folder can reuse macOS’s thumbnail cache, and showing desktop icons again restores their previews reliably.

A difficult video preview no longer holds up thumbnail loading. Folder views and the desktop also avoid duplicate refreshes for the same change.

Dragging several files from the desktop into another app delivers the whole selection. Selection boxes track high-polling mice more smoothly, and icon-view selection follows the area you draw.

Double-clicking a desktop folder opens one window. A single ⌘N also opens one window, and restored windows respond properly after login.

⌘[ and ⌘] navigate folder history, Escape closes search, and ⌘L opens the path bar even from a text field. Search can also find symbolic links.

Older disk images with a Finder-alias Applications shortcut now support drag-to-install, just like disk images that use a symbolic link.

If moving a locked file to the Trash fails, the alert offers Unlock and Move to Trash.

Replacement backups no longer appear as duplicate files in Spotlight. Windows opened through Finder integration and the open/save companion use the remembered window size.

Finder’s icons stay hidden beneath the SADFinder desktop after display changes. After snapping another app, clicking a SADFinder window returns the snapping keys to that window.

File icons recover after temporary macOS icon-service problems. If file-type services stop responding, a Relaunch SADFinder notice offers a restart that waits for an active rename, drag, or copy to finish.
